Core Concepts

Block

Blocks are the building units of your content. The most basic is the text block — write your content and use the slash (/) command to add other block types.

Currently available:

  • Text block (default)
  • Image block
  • Table block
  • Code block

Coming soon:

  • AI Diagram block — create diagrams with AI assistance
  • Shape block — draw and insert shapes

Merging Blocks

Scattered Blocks on the canvas can be merged into one. Select two or more Blocks and click the merge blocks popup (or use + Enter, or Ctrl + Enter on Windows).

This is helpful for organizing scattered ideas. Spread thoughts first, then group related content to form meaningful sections.

Splitting blocks

On canvas, a Block being edited can be split into two separate Blocks—whether it's a standalone Block or content inside a Shell. Use Command + Enter (or Ctrl + Enter on Windows) to divide at the cursor position.

This is useful when a new idea emerges while writing: split it into a separate Block, then merge or reorganize later as thinking evolves.

Text Formatting

Inside any text block, you can apply inline formatting to enrich your content.

Available formatting:

  • Bold⌘B (or Ctrl+B on Windows)
  • Italic⌘I (or Ctrl+I on Windows)
  • Inline code⌘E (or Ctrl+E on Windows)
  • Strikethrough
  • Subscript — e.g. H₂O, chemical formulas, footnote markers
  • Superscript — e.g. x², citations, ordinal indicators (1ˢᵗ, 2ⁿᵈ)

How to apply subscript / superscript:

Select the text you want to format, then open the formatting toolbar that appears above the selection. Click the X₂ button for subscript or the button for superscript.

You can also use the slash (/) command and search for "subscript" or "superscript" to wrap selected text.

Typical use cases:

  • Scientific notation: H₂O, CO₂, E = mc²
  • Math expressions: x² + y² = r²
  • Footnote markers: reference¹, note²
  • Ordinal numbers: 1ˢᵗ place, 3ʳᵈ edition
